Types of Fishing Lines – Pros and Cons – Fishing Line Basics

Basics of fishing lines for beginners – monofilament, fluorocarbon, and braided lines. All of these lines have their strengths and weaknesses. Some are cheap and some are expensive. Braided lines are great for bass fishing with frogs or jigs, and mono or fluoro work better for certain lures or finesse applications. This video discusses the three main types of fishing line and the types of fishing that each one is best suited for.

My favorite types of lines are:

Braid – Sufix 832
Monofilament – Berkley Trilene XL
Fluorocarbon leader – Seaguar blue label

  1. Your videos are superb, especially for novice fisherman like myself. You explain things perfectly without a lot of unnecessary repetition and irrelevant digressions that plague most channels. Great discussion of line types. One question: What line type and strength would you recommend for someone new to a baitcaster reel going after largemouth and stripers in northern California? I am particularly interested in your thoughts about line type that is likely to produce the fewest backlashes. Thanks.

  2. Some more Gold for this beginner. I made the mistake of setting up my pole like a guide had. He’s a pro and has so many options. Im so confused on when your pole gives you Lb numbers what to use. Same for reel. Learning curve is reel. 😂

  3. Thanks for this informative and in-depth analysis.
I took so many notes and will share with all the family and friends I’ve taught to fish over a few decades.
Now they’ll be teaching their children in a few years.
I’ve recently turned 60 and I love that I’m still able to be taught valuable lessons.
    Much appreciation,
stay well and most importantly keep those lines tight.
